SCENOGRAPHY FOR GRAND MUSIC AWARD 2019
Latvian National Opera, Riga, Latvia, year 2020

Nowadays, in the time of advanced digital stage technologies, it is hard to amaze again and again with new light and video effects. The competition of LED pixels, the power and quantity of luminaires often result in oversaturated, uniform and impersonal stages that are quickly forgotten. Scenography of the Grand Music Award is designed as an opposite of the current stage design trend. It uses analogue luminaires exposed as set design elements, and video projections are made as contemporary references to archaic TV screens. On the walls of the scenography are placed classical musical instruments, thus continuing the aesthetics of the orchestra's colors and materials and making the orchestra part of the set design.
